Test Format


CAEL CE assesses your English language proficiency in an academic context. You will complete a selection of tasks. A number of these jobs will require that you used what you have read and listened to answer a question from Speaking or Writing.

The test is also topic based. You will be presented with two primary topics and also two secondary topics, which are derived from the humanities, social sciences, and applied sciences. Each topic is chosen to reflect the kind of material you would experience in your first year of research at Canadian post-secondary academic institution.

Because CAEL CE is entirely computer delivered, all areas of the test are finished in one sitting. The entire duration for CAEL CE is about 3.5 hours.
